A Soundtrack for the Wheel of Time is the creation of Robert Berry (Three). It is a soundtrack album created not for a film or television show, but rather to accompany a series of books. The fantasy books are written by Robert Jordan, who has officially endorsed this album. Berry hooked up with several artists to do the album. They include Lief Sorbye (Tempest, Caliban), Andy Frazier, Lisa Bouchelle (Mastermind), and Michael Mullen (formerly of both Tempest and Caliban). Since two of those musicians are from Tempest, a Celtic rock band that Berry has long been associated with, it should come as no surprise that much of the music has a strong Celtic texture. There are certainly other things going on here as well, though. Chief among the sounds that show up are leanings toward the music of such artists as the Alan Parsons Project, Pink Floyd, and Tangerine Dream. The majority of the disc, as one would expect from a soundtrack, is instrumental. The album should succeed at what it is intended to be, a soundtrack to use as music while reading the books. August 19, 2008: I've read the series many times, and this soundtrack doesn't do it justice. No offense Robert Berry, but the attempt at &quot epicness&quot was just wrong, especially given the names of the songs. There was also very little to differentiate songs that should have had numerous differences. The voyage of the seafolk mainly. I appreciate the effort, but this album is not representative of the series.

June 26, 2008: I would have to say that after listening to the selections, I was upset. It is not that the music was bad but, more like the music was wrong for this particular idea. I think the music presents the image of the books as childish and cartoon-like. I felt as if I could have enjoyed it more if I did not feel like I was a child when listening to it. I have read the books and Jordan is my favorite author and I do not believe this music gives his work justice. However, the thing I did like about it was the first song. That was the only song that I thought had a chance.
