The Proper Introduction to Hank Thompson is a killer 30-cut, single-disc overview of the development and genius of one of country music's greatest honky tonk singer/songwriters. The early tracks here, which come from the early '50s, showcase Thompson trying to find his way in the vein of Hank Williams -- as did all country singers of the era -- and transforming himself into an individual stylist as both a singer and profitable songwriter in the late '50s and early '60s. Some of the familiar tunes here are "Most of All," "I'll Sign My Heart Away," "Cryin' in the Deep Blue Sea," and "The Grass Looks Greener Over There." Recommended -- Thom Jurek, All Music Guide
