About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Although he's achieved most of his success as a producer and songwriter, Steve Tyrell's debut album A New Standard chooses not to showcase his skills at the latter, instead offering Tyrell's vocal versions of twelve standards (including three that appeared in the film Father of the Bride Part II). They're not really exceptional, but they are well done; the main problem is that these songs have been done before so many times, and while pleasant, Tyrell's versions don't really offer anything new. Still, it is nice to hear musicians like Toots Thielemans, Joe Sample, and Harry "Sweets" Edison. Steve Huey, All Music Guide

November 07, 2003: If you're an old duffer like me, you will love these old standards. If your a young person and want a break from rock, rap and hip-hop, listen to this one. Steve Tyrell sounds somewhat like a young Ray Charles. He is great, and what a cast of musicians. Classic love songs sung and played by superb musicians.

February 18, 2003: I saw this guy on ktla news on the morning of Valentines day. What a blessing. I scored two of his cd's. One for my wife and one for my 75 yr. old Mom. Mom has literally worn her's out and the wife won't let me borrow her's. Steve Tyrell has great style!
