June 18, 2008: I was raised about 10 miles from Luttrell where Chet was born and raised. Although his roots are in country, he is probably regarded more in the "pop" field. If you're looking for flash and speed, check out Stevie Ray Vaughn. Chet is the master of smoothness, and not enough can be said of his invention of "chet style" finger picking. He is very resilient and laid back and this album "of the hundred of so he's done" is some of his most famous. At the top of the list is "Mr. Sandman." Plus he's famous for his work as a producer. He's as down to earth as beans and cornbread, but a true artist. If someone visited earth from another planet and I was trying to convey the Chet spirit, this is the album. He's never had a hit record, but he is so consistent and a modest virtuoso. Sadly, although he's left us, you can learn of his genius if you buy this album. Especially if you have no other. His playing, though difficult, will come across as smooth as a snowdrift. Pure Artistry!
