About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Aaron Copland recorded a vast amount of his own music for Columbia and CBS Masterworks from the 1950s to the '70s, and now Sony Classical -- the heir to those labels' archives -- celebrates the centennial of the composer's birth with these reissues. This two-disc set includes many of Copland's most beloved works: Appalachian Spring (in the original chamber version), Rodeo, Billy the Kid, El Salón México, Fanfare for the Common Man, and more. A special addition is a portion of the rehearsal session for Appalachian Spring, and the Columbia String Ensemble's recording of Copland's Nonet for Strings makes its first appearance on CD. Two other sets, released simultaneously, focus on Chamber Music and Rarities and Vocal and Choral Works. Barnes & Noble
