Editorial Reviews

Percy Sledge fans are blessed with choices. The Alabamian has more CDs on the market than Baskin-Robbins does flavors, and picking the best one is as taxing as an intelligence-quotient question. Other than number of tracks, they don't differ much, and nobody bothers with themes. You can bet money that all will contain "When a Man Loves a Woman," "Take Time to Know Her," "Warm and Tender Love," and "Dark End of the Street." If Mary J. Blige is the remake queen, then Sledge is the remake king, and some of his many interpretations are here, including "I've Been Loving You Too Long," "You Send Me," "(If Loving You Is Wrong) I Don't Want to Be Right," and "Tell It Like It Is." His blustery Southern-pone tenor conveys the same heartfelt emotions on every song; he knows no other way, which is a good thing. Andrew Hamilton, All Music Guide
