Whereas A Child's Celebration of Broadway offered kids the original-cast versions of stage musicals, A Child's Celebration of Showtunes does that and more. Movies, too, are included in this batch, such as Bye Bye Birdie, whose irrepressible "Put on a Happy Face" is performed by Dick Van Dyke and Janet Leigh. Child-pleasing shows including Peter Pan, The Sound of Music, and Oliver! are represented, respectively, by Mary Martin's "I Won't Grow Up" and "I'm Flying," Julie Andrews's "Do Re Mi" and "My Favorite Things," and Michael Goodman's "I'd Do Anything" and "Consider Yourself." Rounding out the compilation are a pair of jaunty selections from The King and I, "Whistle a Happy Tune" and "Getting to Know You," and, from Fiddler on the Roof, Zero Mostel's wonderfully sly "If I Were a Rich Man."
