Editorial Reviews

This second installment of the Four Tops' 20th Century Masters series focuses on the post-Motown years for the most part, and takes selections from their time at ABC/Dunhill and Casablanca. While most casual listeners will not be familiar with this material and will seek more of the hits that made them so famous during the '60s, this is still a solid survey of the group's later years, and should leave diehards satisfied that a reasonably priced survey of these overlooked years has finally been issued. The anthemic "Are You Man Enough," which doubles as the theme for Shaft in Africa, and the potent "One Chain Don't Make No Prison" are included, as is their number one R&B hit "When She Was My Girl." Of special note is one of several highlights of Motown's 25th anniversary celebration special: the grand showdown medley between the Four Tops and their brethren in arms, the Temptations.
