About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Dinah Washington's installment of the ongoing 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection concentrates on her pop-oriented recordings for Mercury Records. Although this doesn't make for the most comprehensive overview of her career, it works well at shining a spotlight on a particular portion of her career, and the end result is quite enjoyable on those terms. A TRULY DINAH-MITE TRIBUTE TO A GREAT ARTIST!by WJD-SI

October 05, 2009: SHOWS EXACTLY WHY MS. WASHINGTON WAS NAMED 'QUEEN OF THE BLUES.' THERE IS SOMETHING TRULY HAUNTING ABOUT THIS SILKY VOICE WHICH COULD ALSO BE DELICIOUSLY IMPISH AT TIMES. BUT THE ALBUM IS A WONDERFUL COMPILATION OF MORE THAN BLUES. THERE ARE TWO EARLY ROCK AN ROLL DUETS WITH THE GREAT BROOK BENTON ("BABY, YOU GOT WHAT IT TAKES" AND "A ROCKIN GOOD WAY") THAT WILL TAKE YOU BACK TO A MORE MELODIC TIME. THERE'S ALSO A RENDITION OF A RARELY PERFORMED WARREN & DUBIN JEWEL ("SEPTEMBER IN THE RAIN") THAT WILL KNOCK THE SOCKS OFF ANY LISTENER. A BLUES NUMBER "THIS BITTER EARTH" WILL REMIND YOU HOW EASILY SHE COULD MELT THE HARDEST OF HEARTS. FINALLY, THERE IS HER EXQUISITE RENDITION OF "UNFORGETTABLE" WHICH DESERVES TO BE RANKED RIGHT ALONGSIDE NAT KING COLE'S AS THE DEFINITIVE VERSION. IN SHORT, THIS A REAL DELIGHTFUL AND WORTHY TRIBUTE TO AN INCREDIBLY GIFTED SINGER WHO DIED MUCH TOO YOUNG.

She is so greatby Anonymous
